- Scottsdale Library System
https://www.scottsdalelibrary.org/get-involved/teen-volunteers Organization Mission "We are seeking enthusiastic teenage volunteers to join our library team! If you're fun, outgoing, and eager to help your peers, this is a perfect opportunity for you. As a volunteer, you'll gain real job experience in a lively, educational environment while making a positive impact on your community. Join us to contribute to the library's success and make a difference among your fellow teens! What is the Teen Volunteer Program? Through the Scottsdale Public Library Teen Volunteer program, teens gain real job experience in a fun and educational environment while providing a valuable service to the library, positively impacting the community. This program allows teens to earn documented volunteer hours with the library. We have two programs during the year: the Teen School Year program runs from September-May while the Teen Summer program runs from June-July." Age Restrictions Teens must be at least 14 years old and not yet 18 years old. (per city guidelines) Application Process The application is super simple for summer volunteering, but you just have to apply during April before the summer, because they don’t accept applications and new volunteers for the summer past then. You fill out your name and basic info, the library branch you’d like to volunteer with, your shirt size, and a short statement (about a sentence) explaining why you’d like to volunteer at the library. Firsthand Experience(s) "As a teen summer volunteer, I played a big part in running the summer reading challenge (SRC), especially for the younger kids. For a lot of shifts I was stationed at the SRC desk and helped any families and young kids who came by to add points or redeem prizes. Whenever it was slow, we were allowed to read our own book, as it modeled good behavior for the kids! On other shifts, I shelved books, which can be very relaxing if you just want some time to yourself. You’re able to schedule your own shifts and it has a lot of flexibility. If you want more structure, they have a scheduled reading buddies program where you are paired up with a young child and help them practice reading twice a week." - Abby Roth (volunteered summer 2026)
- Feed My Starving Children
https://www.fmsc.org/ Organization Mission "As a Christian nonprofit organization, Feed My Starving Children is called to feed God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit. You will hear us say this again and again: “We want to reach everyone, until ALL are fed.” We truly mean this. This means reaching the hard-to-reach people and places, the “least of these.” They will be found, and they will be fed. With God’s help we will work together with organizations and ministries across the globe to end hunger." Age Restrictions Anyone over the age of 5 can volunteer. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Application Process Volunteers must sign a digital waiver. If you are part of a group, a group leader signs for all party member. Firsthand Experiences I've volunteered at Feed My Starving Children a couple of times and I really enjoy the environment there. They make service fun. First, you walk into a room where members thank you for attending, relay the organization's message, and give you a brief training. Then, you choose from a couple different service options: packing food, labeling, or stocking. Packing food has the majority of people. There are multiple stations and jobs at each station range from opening food bags, pouring food into them, weighing them, sealing them, and packaging them. It is fun to go with friends so you can talk while listening to music playing and packaging, however everyone at the station starts to work as a whole so going with friends is not necessary, you might make some while you are there! Feed My Starving Children is very accomodating. For example, I went with my Grandma because I am under 18, and she cannot stand for that long, so the labeling option was perfect for her! They placed stickers on labels for the food bags and she had a great time, even made some friends while sitting! Similarly, the stocking option is for more active people, as the majority of their service involves carrying heavy boxes, restocking food where it has run out. At the end of the (usually 2 hour) service, members tell you how many bags you made and how many children are being fed with these meals (usually in the hundreds). There is an option to do a group prayer for the food, and then you are done! I would recommend this service activity to anyone! It is really fun, a great environment, and the time passes by quickly.
- St. Mary's Food Bank
https://www.stmarysfoodbank.org/ Organization Mission "St. Mary’s Food Bank provides nutritious food to families, children, and seniors facing food insecurity. Each year, we distribute food to millions of neighbors throughout Arizona. Our efficient operations and purchasing power allow us to turn $1 donated into 5 meals. We provide food, at No COST, to hundreds of partner agencies, who, in turn, give food to people in need. Our agency partners are food pantries, homeless shelters, meal centers, domestic violence shelters, afterschool programs for at-risk children, low-income senior living centers, etc. By donating to St. Mary’s, you are supporting hundreds of local nonprofit organizations and helping millions of people each year." - HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank
https://www.desertmission.com/volunteer/ Organization Mission "The link between hunger and poor health is undeniable. Desert Mission is combatting hunger across the income spectrum by helping to bridge nutrition gaps that negatively affect the health and well-being of community residents and HonorHealth patients alike. By providing fresh and nutritious foods both through the front door of Desert Mission Food Bank and the through back door with our community programs, we’re able to provide food access, education, and empowerment where it’s most needed." Age Restrictions Volunteers must be aged 16+. (Ages 14-15 may volunteer with an adult chaperone.) Application Process A waiver needs to be signed and brought on your day of service. (If you are under 18 your parents have to sign as well) Firsthand Experience(s) I recently volunteered at the Food Bank and I had an amazing time! The people there were all so nice, and we listened to music and talked most of the time. It is a really nice environment to be in. I went with my friend and we got there at 7am (they open at 8) so we were tasked with creating vegetable bags. The Food Bank recieves donations from various grocery stores, and volunteers go through and sort them. We put various vegetables into grocery bags and then placed them in the fridge for people with carts to come by and grab. After the Food Bank opened, I started doing the carts (my favorite part). In this job, volunteers go around to all the different food stations, placing items in their cart along the way. I have a video of what completing a cart looks like below. There are different ways to volunteer here, though they all require physical work/standing. There are volunteers in the back sorting shipments, making vegetable/fruit bags, restocking various food items, completing carts, and loading the completed carts into people's cars. I volunteered for a 4 hour shift, but it went by very fast! We were able to take a couple breaks and there was a fridge full of different drinks and a bunch of donuts/pastries/snacks for us. I really enjoyed volunteering and the Desert Mission Food Bank, you should too!
