Organization Mission

"We are seeking enthusiastic teenage volunteers to join our library team! If you're fun, outgoing, and eager to help your peers, this is a perfect opportunity for you. As a volunteer, you'll gain real job experience in a lively, educational environment while making a positive impact on your community. Join us to contribute to the library's success and make a difference among your fellow teens!

What is the Teen Volunteer Program?

Through the Scottsdale Public Library Teen Volunteer program, teens gain real job experience in a fun and educational environment while providing a valuable service to the library, positively impacting the community. This program allows teens to earn documented volunteer hours with the library. We have two programs during the year: the Teen School Year program runs from September-May while the Teen Summer program runs from June-July."

Age Restrictions

Teens must be at least 14 years old and not yet 18 years old. (per city guidelines)

Application Process

The application is super simple for summer volunteering, but you just have to apply during April before the summer, because they don’t accept applications and new volunteers for the summer past then. You fill out your name and basic info, the library branch you’d like to volunteer with, your shirt size, and a short statement (about a sentence) explaining why you’d like to volunteer at the library.

Firsthand Experience(s)

"As a teen summer volunteer, I played a big part in running the summer reading challenge (SRC), especially for the younger kids. For a lot of shifts I was stationed at the SRC desk and helped any families and young kids who came by to add points or redeem prizes. Whenever it was slow, we were allowed to read our own book, as it modeled good behavior for the kids! On other shifts, I shelved books, which can be very relaxing if you just want some time to yourself. You’re able to schedule your own shifts and it has a lot of flexibility. If you want more structure, they have a scheduled reading buddies program where you are paired up with a young child and help them practice reading twice a week." - Abby Roth (volunteered summer 2026)
