Organization Mission
"HALO (Helping Animals Live On) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1994 by two women, Michel Herstam and Heather Allen, out of their homes in Phoenix, AZ. HALO provides temporary shelter to abandoned cats and dogs until they can be adopted into a permanent home." Age Restrictions
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old for hands-on roles (main shelter, PetSmart/Petco adoption locations, Thrift Boutique, adoption events). Children under 16 can get involved through the "Under 16" program via donation drives, fundraising, social media awareness, craft projects, and letter-writing. HALO Rescue
Application Process
Complete the online volunteer orientation; there is no minimum or maximum hour commitment afterward. Group volunteering is capped at 10 volunteers per shift; larger groups can arrange multiple shifts by emailing volunteer@halorescue.org (602-971-9222). HALO RescueHALO Rescue
Description of Volunteer Service
Volunteers work directly with animals at the main shelter (walking dogs, socializing cats, cleaning kennels), staff partner PetSmart/Petco adoption locations, support the HALO Thrift Boutique, or help at community adoption events across the Phoenix Valley.
