From Houses to Homes

Organization Mission
"From Houses to Homes aims to create pathways out of poverty by providing safe housing, education and health care. Our vision is that every family has a safe roof over their heads, in a country in which everyone can read and write and has the ability to thrive."
Age Restrictions
Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but all volunteers ages 13 and over are required to make a $600 volunteer donation to build a home. (Minors would participate as part of a family or group.)
Application Process
Volunteers sign up through the website, make the required $600 volunteer donation (by check or online) to fund the home build, and arrange their own travel and lodging in Antigua, Guatemala (hotels, hostels, or host-family stays; the organization can help arrange a host family). No prior construction skills are required.
Description of Volunteer Service
Volunteers travel to highland Guatemala and, working alongside a local construction team and the recipient family, build an entire block home from start to finish in about five days, culminating in a key-presentation ceremony. This is a national/international organization (U.S. office in Mt. Tabor, New Jersey; operations in Antigua, Guatemala), not an Arizona-specific program.
