Organization Mission
To ensure children in foster care, Title I schools, and military families across Maricopa County and Arizona's Tri-State region have the essentials — uniforms, shoes, hygiene items, and school supplies — they need to thrive, removing barriers between a child and their education.
Age Restrictions
Not specified for adult volunteers; family/group volunteer opportunities are common at events (school supply packing, personal shopper roles for students).
Application Process
Volunteer at seasonal back-to-school distribution events (e.g., at Phoenix College or Grand Canyon University) or the Tri-State "Connection Express" bus events. Sign-up information is available through bhhslegacy.org or by contacting Legacy Connection directly.
Description
Backpack Buddies provides a "total package" of support valued at about $450 per student, plus year-round Emergency Clothing Closets on school campuses and Legacy Library literacy programs, reaching more than 15,000 children annually.
